Asia Area Presidency Reorganized

The Asia Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been reorganized with Elder Randy D. Funk as the Area President, Elder David F. Evans now serving as the first counselor and Elder Peter F. Meurs joining as the second counselor.

Elder Meurs has served in numerous callings, including as a bishop, high councilor, stake president, counselor in a mission presidency and Area Seventy.

As General Authorities and Seventies of the Church, Elders Funk, Evans and Meurs will travel often to strengthen and inspire members throughout the Asia Area. They carry a special call and ordination to preach the gospel and serve as “special witnesses” of Christ to the world.

“It’s our privilege to serve and be among members of the Church in the Asia Area,” the new Asia Area Presidency expressed. “We love the people in Asia. We have seen how the gospel makes a great difference in the lives of those who come to know and live the principles of the gospel.”

The administration of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is facilitated within geographic areas. Each area is overseen by an area president and two counselors, who are members of the Quorums of the Seventy and live in their assigned areas.

The Asia Area covers 22 countries, from Taiwan to Pakistan, from Mongolia to Timor-Leste, with the main office located in Hong Kong.
