In November 2018, the Brigham Young University (BYU) Pathway Worldwide program was expanded to include Cambodia. BYU Pathway Worldwide provides a BYU education to members of the Church throughout the world who might not otherwise be able to pursue higher education.
Cambodia is particularly well-suited to benefit from this program. The cost and entrance requirements for local higher education prohibit many from attending college. BYU Pathway is designed to overcome these obstacles.

To qualify for BYU Pathway Worldwide, Church members must either have a high school diploma, or be at least 19 years of age. Candidates must also have enough basic to intermediate English. After acceptance into the program, the first step is PathwayConnect, a one-year "bridge" of basic online courses that will help students prepare to meet the rigors of later college level coursework.
This one-year program is divided into three semesters: Life Skills and English, Applied Math and English, and Writing and English. The online coursework is coupled with a local Institute of Religion class (for those under 30 years of age), and a weekly "gathering" of students, where students take turns leading class discussions of the current week’s lessons. This helps to develop students' leadership skills. These gatherings are supervised by a local senior missionary couple who are there to provide structure and support to students. This one year of coursework and institute can stand alone as a path to personal enrichment and improved job skills.
After completion of PathwayConnect, a student may choose to continue to the next phase, the completion of a 15-credit certificate program in a chosen field. These certificates help train students to enter specific job markets. From there, students may pursue an associate degree (with an additional certificate) and even a bachelor’s degree (earning a third certificate in their chosen field). All these certificates and degrees are equivalent to on-campus BYU-Idaho degrees.
BYU Pathways Worldwide has structured their tuition costs so it is affordable in each country where it is offered. This is a great opportunity for many for whom higher education has felt like an unreachable dream.
