U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia, William A. Heidt, Keynotes Annual Young Single Adult 2-day Country Wide Conference with 600 Attending.

The U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia, William A. Heidt, addressed a group of young single adults from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including friends of other faiths, as the keynote speaker. The event was an annual 2-day YSA Conference for the country of Cambodia.  Participants came from Siem Reap, Battambang, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom and Phnom Penh.  The Ambassador spoke of the importance of staying in school/receiving higher education, employment skills, learning English, and selecting studies that will be relevant for the needs of Cambodia.  He also spoke of how raising a good family will strengthen the country.  He lead a question and answer period in which he gave advice on choosing careers, studying and working hard to achieve goals, and how to help Cambodia progress. He was given the utmost respect as he entered, and a warm applause when he concluded. A statue was presented to him in appreciation of his participation.  Many young single adults were excited to have photos taken with him.  

The YSA Conference began on Friday, May 13.

Participants began arriving by bus close to 3:00pm. Ambassador Heidt gave the keynote address, followed by a delicious buffet dinner outside, with entertainment of Cultural performances.  It was a wonderful night. 

Each Young SIngle Adult received a T-Shirt with I Am A Mormon printed on it.  Also printed with, a resource for news articles about Cambodia and information about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Saturday Conference Session had speakers including local Church Priesthod leaders, and classes, i.e., Developing Musical Talents, Social Media, Successful Business, Job applications and Interviews, U.S. Visa Information, and Preparing to serve a Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  A group photo was taken, lunch served, and the conference concluded.

Friendships were renewed, knowledge gained, and all who attended enjoyed the event.

The intent of bringing young single adults together annually for this conference is for participants to be instructed on subjects that are important in their lives, to get direction for decisions they face, to reinforce moral values, and to develop friendships.
