Happy Students As LDS Charities Completes Sanitation Project

If you were one of the 2,400 students attending Kampong Thom High School during 2015 , you would have had only 2 or sometimes 3 individual restrooms and wash- stations working.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has a Church congregational meeting house right next to the school.  They were made aware of the problem.

LDS Charities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints visited the school.

A request was made to LDSC to improve the water and sanitation.

A project began to renovate the 6 existing restroom buildings and construct a large new facility centrally located on the campus that would also be used for intramural sporting activities.  Intramural sporting events occur at the High School where many family and friends gather.

Also in the project, 7 new hand wash stations were planned.

LDSC hired a contractor who spent 2 ½ months repairing and renovating the school facilities.

There has been excitement among the students watching the transformation of the decrepit buildings into functioning facilities, and seeing the new ones built.

Kampong Thom High School is the only High School in Kampong Thom and was started in 1953 by the French.  2,400 Students  and 135 teachers and staff attend.  Six restroom buildings were renovated; a large new building centrally located on campus for the Intramural activities, was built with a handicap stall, ramp, a shower room and seven new hand wash stations.  For a total of 22 individual stalls and 2 restroom buildings. What a transformation for these students!

The completion day arrived and an Opening Ceremony was held.

Attending the opening ceremony included His Excellency Phrak Sareth, Vice Governor of Kampong Thom, His Excellency Uong Vibol, The Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Cults & Religion, His Excellency Ear Kimlorn, Vice City Governor of Kampong Thom, Mr. Cho Vunthy, The Kampong Thom Deputy Director of the Department of Education ,Youth and Sports, LDS District President, Chankoy Seng & other local Priesthood leaders,  Mrs. Koy Kimheng, Director of Kampong Thom High School and other school administrators and teachers.  Also three-hundred students were present.  The children performed with their traditional musical instruments, adding to the celebration of the ceremony.
