New Asia Area Presidency

A new Asia Area Presidency will be serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Elder Randy D. Funk will serve as Area President, Elder Chi Hong Wong, as first counselor, and Elder Siu Hong Pon as second counselor.  The Asia Area, offices in Hong Kong, is one of 15 international areas. 

Under the direction of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, area presidencies provide spiritual and administrative direction to the leaders and members of the Church in their areas. These presidencies of the various areas change every few years, with leaders giving direction for current needs.  This presidency has the Area Vision, 'That all may increase in faith in our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and enjoy happy eternal families.'

Elder Randy D. Funk

Elder Randy D. Funk was sustained as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 6, 2013, at age 60. At the time of his call he was serving as the president of the India Bangalore Mission.

Elder Funk received a bachelor of arts degree in history from Utah State University in 1976. He then received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Utah Law School in 1979. Prior to his call to full-time Church service, he was an attorney and partner in the law firm of Sherman & Howard LLC in Denver, Colorado.

Elder Funk has served in numerous Church callings, including as a full-time missionary in Indonesia, bishop, high councilor, stake president, Area Seventy, and mission president. He served on the board of directors of several community organizations, including the Executive Board of the Denver Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Randy Dennis Funk was born in Logan, Utah, on August 1, 1952. He married Andrea Clyde in May 1976. They are the parents of six children.

 Elder Chi Hong Wong

Elder Chi Hong (Sam) Wong was serving as an Area Seventy in the Asia Area when he was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy on April 5, 2014.

Elder Wong received both a bachelor of science degree in accounting and an associate of science degree in computer science from Brigham Young University–Hawaii. He also received an MBA from the Hong Kong Open University. In his professional life he was the founder and partner of a business and quality consulting company and also worked at a materials testing and inspection group.

Since joining the Church in 1982, Elder Wong has served in numerous other Church callings, including ward financial clerk, ward clerk, Sunday School president, Young Men president, bishop’s counselor, bishop, stake president’s counselor, and stake president.  Elder Wong was born in Hong Kong SAR, China.  He is married to Carol Lu and they are the parents of four children and have one granddaughter.

Elder Siu Hong Pon

Elder Siu Hong Pon was named a member of the Eighth Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 31, 2012. He is currently serving as a member of the Asia Area Presidency.

Elder Pon received a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of East Asia in 1993. He began his career working for the Church in February 1980 and has served in several management positions in the Asia Area Finance Department. Prior to his retirement on March 1, 2015, he served in the Asia Area Controller position for 15 years.

Elder Pon has served in numerous Church callings, including bishop, branch president, mission president’s counselor, and stake president.

Siu Hong Pon was born in Hong Kong, China on July 2, 1958. He married Cindy Wai King Chiu in October 1982. They are the parents of four children. Elder and Sister Pon reside in Hong Kong, China.
