Effective August 1, 2023, the Asia Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was reorganized. Elder Benjamin M. Z. Tai became the new Area President after serving as a counselor since 2021. Elder Kelly R. Johnson, who joined the presidency in 2022, is now the First Counselor and Elder Michael John U. Teh is now the Second Counselor.

Elder David P. Homer, who was serving as Area President, and his wife, Nancy, have received new assignments to serve at Church headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States; thus, necessitating a change in the Area Presidency.  Elder Teh and his wife, Grace, have just relocated to Hong Kong from Salt Lake City, where he had previously been serving as an Assistant Executive Director in the Temple Department.

Elder Teh was sustained as a General Authority Seventy on March 31, 2007, and brings a wealth of experience as a two-time Philippines Area Presidency member. At the time of his call to full-time Church service, he was employed as the recorder of the Manila Philippines Temple. Amongst other assignments in the Temple Department and North America Southwest Area in the United States, Elder Teh has also served as president of the Taiwan Taichung Mission from 2016 to 2018.

The Asia Area is comprised of 22 countries and territories and contains half of the world’s population. Members of the Area Presidency have the responsibility to oversee the affairs of the Church and to strengthen, train and uplift Church members, leaders and missionaries throughout the region.

“We are very grateful for the privilege to serve the people of the Asia Area whom we love and respect,” President Tai said. “The peoples of the Area are full of potential and promise. We invite all to learn about the Savior Jesus Christ, to accept His invitation to follow Him, and personally experience the joy and peace that He offers to all.”
