On December 12, 2023, Meas Sereyvolleak, the Deputy Director of the Thlea Prachum Health Center, hosted a gathering of approximately 30 guests, including government dignitaries and health center staff, to celebrate the completion of their new maternity wing, which was contributed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The distinguished guests were seated under the new wing which now offers a shaded space for staff meetings and other gatherings. Adjacent to this area is a resurfaced ramp leading up to the wing. The facility has been enhanced with freshly painted walls and provided waiting room benches. Notably, the addition includes a new delivery room adjacent to a recovery room, significantly improving maternity care for women in Thlea Prachum.
Meas Sereyvolleak then introduced So Touch, the Director of the Health Center. He thanked the Church for their pivotal role in constructing the wing, benefiting the 60 health center staff members and the 6,000 individuals it serves.

Vong Sara, the Chief of the Executive Office of Koh Andet District expressed his deep appreciation for this new addition. “Now even people living outside of our district can benefit from this new addition,” he said. “We need to take care of this building so that it can help our community both now and in the future.” This center is one of 12 serving the district's 100,000 residents.
Elder Richard Gerlach, one of the Church’s humanitarian volunteers who managed this project, thanked his wife, Sister Patricia Gerlach, for her partnership and work ethic. He reminded the audience that the Church is a worldwide church with donations coming from members from all walks of life. Both rich and the poor all voluntarily contribute what they can to help “succor those that stand in need of...succor…and will not suffer that the beggar putteth up his petition to you in vain.” (Book of Mormon, Mosiah 4:16)
Chansophea Reath, President of the Association of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cambodia, echoed Elder Gerlach’s sentiments. He noted that the Church, now present in 188 countries, has been an Association in Cambodia since 1996. “The donations of money and time to make this building happen come from friends and families all over the world.” He added, “As followers of Jesus Christ, we are taught to love others, and this building is a manifestation of that love.”
The ceremony ended with some final words from Bak Sokha, the First Deputy of the Thlea Prachum Commune. “When the Health Center leadership came to me for help, I connected them with Phea. The Church has been a huge help in the building of this new wing. You can see the high quality of the work.”
He expressed gratitude that the patients, who previously had to travel long distances for care, can now receive high-quality treatment in the new wing at a fraction of the cost. The Health Center Employees concluded the event by presenting certificates of appreciation to all contributors to the project.
