The ceremony marked the completion of work on all six schools. It was attended by government officials, including the District Governor, the Director of Education, and the Director of Cults and Religions. Principals from each of the schools involved in the renovation projects were present in addition to teachers, students, and Church officials.

Elder Rod Smith, a humanitarian missionary overseeing these school projects for the Church, first addressed the audience. He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to help improve the conditions and educational opportunities in rural Cambodia. He shared his appreciation to the governor and directors for their efforts and help to facilitate the projects, and their desire to help improve the lives of the students.

He told the students that “Education is the key to unlocking many great opportunities in your future.” He added that if we make mistakes in our lives, we can always change directions.

Sister Patricia Smith, his wife, and fellow missionary, also addressed the audience. She said that she wanted to direct her remarks mainly to the young women of the school. Sister Smith shared a story from her younger years about her father stressing the importance of education for her as a young woman and that she needed to finish her education when she got married.

"Education is like opening a window where you can fly away as far as you want to go, " she said, "We don’t know what lies ahead in our future, so prepare the best you can for whatever lies ahead in your future.” Sister Smith's remarks concluded with claps and cheers from the audience.

The District Governor gave his remarks, thanking the Church for their humanitarian efforts in helping the schools in the district and for having the work completed while the students were on break from school. He also echoed the importance of education for young women and all students. The Smiths accepted a plaque from the governor for his appreciation to the Church for their humanitarian efforts to help the students and the people of Cambodia.
