His Excellency, Hgoun Rattanak, Governor of Kampong Thom Province, as well as other government officials, addressed the waiting audience. The Governor expressed his gratitude for the Church for the donation of food and essentials, which he said were provided in such a timely manner. He also noted that he had only been the Governor for one year and this was the second time working with the Church in such an event. In addition to expressing gratitiude for the Church, he was also appreciative of organizations that help the poor and needy regardless of race or religion and said that religious freedom should be available to everyone.

Church representative Samnang Sea spoke and expressed his appreciation for the relationship with government leaders and their willingness to help the people and said he was grateful that the Church could help alleviate the suffering of those who have lost so much in the flooding. He also expressed his thanks for the arrangements made to help organize and distribute the food under the direction of Mr. Tan Taychraon, Director of Cult and Religion, in the Kampong Thom province.  The Governor presented a framed recognition plaque to the Church, which was received by the humanitarian missionaries, Elder and Sister Smith, who are serving in Cambodia.

During this season of the year, people would have been preparing for the upcoming Water Festival to celebrate the good harvest season.  This year they have little to celebrate as heavy rains ruined crops and flooded farms, homes and villages.  The flood affected thousands of families in the Kampong Thom area.  Families from the affected areas started arriving hours before the distribution time in anticipation of the relief they would receive. Families arrived on scooters, in Tuk-tuks, and on bikes to transport the much-needed food.

This donation from the Church will serve 500 families.
